CAIRO, Ill. -- Donald E. Ames, 66, of Cairo died Friday, Jan. 8, 1993, at his home.

He was born March 9, 1926, at Miller City, the son of the late James and Clara Wilson Ames.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and was the owner of the Bolen-Ames Insurance Agency in Cairo until his retirement. A veteran of World War II, he was past president of the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, the Cairo Kiwanis, the Cairo School District Board of Education, and the Daystar Care Center board of directors.

Survivors include three nieces, Sandra Baker of Cairo, Brenda Hauser of Camp Verdi, Ariz., and Clara Sue Ames of California, and three nephews, William and Ronald Lockett, both of Tamms, and Joe Bill Ames of California.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo, where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

Funeral mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. The Rev. Father Jerome Fortenberry will officiate, and burial will be in the Brooks Friendship Memorial Park Mausoleum in Paducah, Ken.
