JOHN E. KAUFMAN

McCLURE, Ill. John E. Kaufman, 87, of McClure, Ill. died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1993 at Day Star Nursing Home in Cairo.

He was born July 7, 1905 at McClure, the son of Eugene and Daisy Mae Lawrence Kaufman.

On May 28, 1931, he married the former Ella Mae Burchyett at Cairo. She preceded him in death Feb. 28, 1980.

He is survived by six sons, Thomas and Bill Kaufman, McClure, John and Jack Kaufman, Thebes, Don Kaufman, East Cape Girardeau, Lloyd Kaufman, Olive Branch; one foster son, Curtis Junior Jacobs, Thebes; five daughters, Mary Watson, Springfield, Ill., LaVerne Benefield and Roberta Stevens, both of Thebes, Marcia Scherer, Morley, and Judy Sander, Cape Girardeau; one sister, Gladys Matlock, McClure; 33 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.

Four brothers, three sisters and two grandchildren preceded him in death.

He attended Baptist church and was a lifetime resident and farmer in McClure. He was a past school board member of McClure Elementary School.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel with the Rev. Dale Billingsley officiating and the Rev. Mile Woelk assisting.

Burial will follow in Linsey Cemetery in McClure, Ill.
