BELL CITY -- John Howard Abner, 82, of Bell City, died Sunday, June 20, 1993, at Advance Care Center.

He was born April 30, 1911, at Bell City, son of Lum and Rhoda Riggins Abner. He and Inez Watts were married Sept. 10, 1932, at Bloomfield.

Abner was a pipefitter with Associated Natural Gas of Sikeston until retiring. He was a member of Bell City United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Howard and Don Abner of Bell City; six daughters, Doris Hess, Virginia Niemcyzk, Barbara Brown and Rhoda Burton of Bell City, June Jordan of Advance, Sherry Barrick of Bloomfield; 21 grandchildren, including John Abner of Signella, Sicily, whom he reared; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter, and two great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, four sisters and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Morgan Funeral Chapel. The Revs. Jim Robinson and Jerry Turner will officiate, with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Bell City.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. today.
