CAIRO, Ill. -- Charles Edward Griffith, 63, of Cairo, died Monday, July 12, 1993, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born Nov. 13, 1929, in Wickliffe, Ky., son of Joseph and Zula Mae Whitis Griffith. Griffith was a security guard at Bunge Grain, and was a former police officer in Cairo. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Cairo Masonic Lodge, KIM Shrine Club, Ainad Shrine Temple, and Cairo VFW Post 2649. He was a veteran of the Korean War...

CAIRO, Ill. -- Charles Edward Griffith, 63, of Cairo, died Monday, July 12, 1993, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Nov. 13, 1929, in Wickliffe, Ky., son of Joseph and Zula Mae Whitis Griffith.

Griffith was a security guard at Bunge Grain, and was a former police officer in Cairo. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Cairo Masonic Lodge, KIM Shrine Club, Ainad Shrine Temple, and Cairo VFW Post 2649. He was a veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; a daughter, Myra Polston of Cairo; a brother, Bill Griffith of Irving, Texas; three sistes, Shirley Caudle, Carolyn Strieff and Virginia Henshaw, all of Colorado Springs, Colo., and a granddaughter.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Barkett Funeral Chapel in Cairo. The Rev. Bill Gholson will officiate, with burial in Mound City National Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
