PERRYVILLE -- Dr. Lawrence W. Feltz, 78, a long-time prominent Perryville physician died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1992, at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Perryville.

He was born Aug. 11, 1913, in Perryville, the son of Lawrence and Katherine Lukefahr Feltz. On Feb. 14, 1944, he married Irene L. Creedon, who survives of the home.

Feltz represented the third generation of doctors in his family. He graduated in 1931 from St. Vincent's High School in Perryville, and 10 year later, received his medical degree from St. Louis University. After he served a year-long internship at Deaconness Hospital in St. Louis, he entered the Army Medical Corps, where he served in the Pacific Islands and Australia.

Following his military service, Feltz returned to Perryville in 1946 to practice medicine. Since that time, he delivered more than 3,000 babies, and prior to April 1951 when Perry County Memorial Hospital was built, the births were home deliveries. His practice in Perryville included day and night house calls.

He recently was honored by the Missouri Medical Association during its annual convention for his 50 years in the practice of medicine.
