GERTRUDE HESS

JACKSON -- Funeral service for Gertrude Hess of Jackson will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau. The Rev. Jack Cathcart will officiate, with burial in Lightner Cemetery at Scott City.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Hess, 97, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1992, at Deal Nursing Home.

She was born May 21, 1894, in Anna, Ill., daughter of Andrew J. and Joanna Dillow Davis. She married James R. Hess Nov. 24, 1912, at Anna. He died May 17, 1948.

Hess had lived in Illmo, Kansas City, and Cape Girardeau. She lived with a niece, Leah Francis of Cape Girardeau, before moving to Deal Nursing Home in 1964. She was of the Baptist affiliation, and had been a Sunday School teacher and youth leader.

Survivors include a sister, Agnes Christy of Las Vegas, Nev.; two nieces and five nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
