CAIRO, Ill. -- Richard D. Cantrell, 84, of Cairo, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1992, on arrival at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. CAIRO, Ill. -- Richard D. Cantrell, 84, of Cairo, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1992, on arrival at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 10, 1907, at Benton, son of Beth and Della Mae Donovan Cantrell.

Cantrell was a merchant marine 50 years, and member of Tigert Methodist Church here.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha; a sister, Mabel Bechtel of Iron Mountain, Mo.; a brother, Leon Cantrell of Cairo; two stepdaughters, Dorothy Dennis of Cairo, Donna Keistler of Denver, Colo.; a stepson, Charles Britt of New York City; four stepgrandchildren, and nine great-stepgrandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Crain Funeral Chapel in Cairo, with the Rev. Kenneth Provines officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. today.
