Clifton LeRoy Elder, 87, of Cape Girardeau, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1992, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born July 30, 1904, in Clark County, Iowa, son of Ira C. and Alice May Randall Elder. He and the former Lynne New were married in June 1953 in Harden, Montana.

Elder was a welder with Big Horn Coal Co. in Sheridan, Wyo., a number of years. He was a past secretary/treasurer of United Mine Workers, and life member of Elks Lodge 520, both in Sheridan.

Survivors include his wife; a stepdaughter, Sylvia Freeman of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Anna Kadel of Decorah, Iowa, Mildred Gable of Anoka, Minn., and two grandchildren.

Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

There is no visitation or funeral service.
