CHARLESTON -- The Rev. Robert L. Burke, 79, of Charleston, died Saturday, June 13, 1992 at his residence.
He was born Nov. 22, 1912 in Blodgett, son of the late Emmett and Lena Burks Burke.
He graduated from Charleston High School in 1929 and was awarded college degrees from the University of Missouri and from the Teachers College of Columbia University.
He was a member of the Charleston United Methodist Church for more than 62 years. For 38 years, he served local Methodist pastoral appointments, retiring in 1991 from Smith Chapel United Methodist in Sikeston.
He was a member of the Charleston Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years and a veteran of World War II.
On March 11, 1950 he married the former Mary Sims of Dyer, Tenn. She survives. He is also survived by one son, Dr. James Kennedy Burke, Louisville, Ky.; one daughter, Sarah Ellen McWilliams, Columbia; one brother, John Burke of Charleston; five sisters, Louretta Giltz, Jeanne Logan, Jessie Brown, Sally Winchester, all of Charleston; Patricia Brock, Columbia; and three grandchildren.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Charleston with the Rev. Richard L. Combs officiating. Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery.
