OLMSTED, Ill. -- Funeral service for Ervin Lane Davis of Olmsted will be held at 10 a.m. today at Zion Traveler Missionary Baptist Church in Mound City. The Revs. Carlton Berry and J.L. Posey will officiate, with burial in National Cemetery at Mound City.

Algee Memorial Chapel at Cairo is in charge of arrangements.

Davis, 83, died Monday, June 15, 1992, at Daystar Care Center in Cairo.

He was born Jan. 5, 1909, in Sherman, Miss., son of John Lane and Lula Harris Davis. He and Maria Elizabeth Johnson were married Jan. 31, 1933, at Villa Ridge.

Davis worked 20 years at Shawnee Steam Plant, Tennessee Valley Authority, in Kevil, Ky., retiring in 1969. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He had been a member of Zion Traveler Church since 1945, and had served as deacon, trustee, superintendent of Sunday School, church clerk, choir director and assistant pianist.

Davis was a member and past worshipful master and secretary of Zaradatha Lodge 61 in Mound City, was a Shriner, and had served as worthy patron of Phyllis Wheatly Order of Eastern Star 136.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Curtis Lane Davis of Mounds, Curtis Lee Vaughn Davis of St. Louis, Mo.; two daughters, Barbara Wright of St. Louis, Earlene Belle of Sikeston; a sister, Thresa Roberts of Springfield; 11 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers.
