BETTY RUTH ABERNATHY

MORLEY -- Betty Ruth Abernathy, 57, of Morley, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 1992 at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born Nov. 18, 1934 in Searcy, Ark., the daughter of James Fowler Oliver and Lilly Lee Lathum Oliver.

She married Leeroy W. Abernathy on March 7, 1949 in Piggott, Ark. He survives.

She was a machine operator at the Thorngate Clothing Factory before retiring in 1971. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Morley.

Other survivors are two sons, Winfer Ray Abernathy of Dudley and Billy Abernathy of Morley; two daughters, Wanda Lovel and Christy Whorton, both of Morley; five brothers, Alfred Oliver of Festus, Avery Oliver of Marshall, Ark., Seth Oliver of Bainbridge, Ga., Manuel Oliver of Millersville and Albert Oliver of Jackson; four sisters, Marie Abernathy of Morley, Ann Miller of Fredericktown, Wilma Finn of St. Louis and Bonnie Pierce of Cape Girardeau; 10 grandchildren, one step-grandchild and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one great-grandchild.

Friends may call today after 5 p.m. at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel at Sikeston. Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Morley with the Rev. Jim Matthews officiating.

Burial will be in the New Morley Cemetery.
