SIKESTON -- James Everett "Shorty" Greer 88, of Sikeston, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1992, at Miner Nursing Center. He was born Aug. 10, 1904, in East Prairie to the late Jim Ben and Delphia Ellen Murphy Greer. He had lived in Scott and Mississippi counties his entire life. SIKESTON -- James Everett "Shorty" Greer 88, of Sikeston, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1992, at Miner Nursing Center.

He was born Aug. 10, 1904, in East Prairie to the late Jim Ben and Delphia Ellen Murphy Greer.

He had lived in Scott and Mississippi counties his entire life. He was engaged in farming and was employed by the International Harvester Implement Co. until he retired in 1972. He was of the Baptist faith.

In December 1933 he married Opal Fleming. She survives of the home in Sikeston.

Also surviving are one daughter, Sharon Knight, of Lake St. Louis; three sisters, Lucille Lemons of Martin, Tenn., Gladys Newman and Geneva Finley, both of Charleston; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by a son, James Martin Greer. He was also preceded in death by three brothers.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. The Rev. J.L. Laughlin, pastor of First Christian Church of Charleston, will officiate. Interment will follow at Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie.
