He was born Feb. 23, 1936, in Cape Girardeau, son of Samuel E. and Norma L. Bass. He attended Central High School here, and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He was an electrical engineer, and veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie; two daughters, Susan Elliott of Jacksonville, N.C., Vickey Bass of Wabasha, Minn.; mother and stepfather, Norma and Harry Reese of Oran; two sisters, Jannie Fox of Cape Girardeau, Joyce Moncrief of Jackson, Miss., and two grandchildren.
