The band Ransom recently performed at the Jackson city park's band shell.

Kevin Mann, drummer for the band, said, "We're Christians first" when asked about what religion the band represents.

The main objective of this praise and worship band is to get across the message from the biblical scripture found in Matthew 20:28: "Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and give his life as a Ransom for many." This is how the band got its name.

The band rewrote a favorite KISS song that goes: "I want to rock and roll all night and party everyday." The words were changed to "I want to praise the Lord all night and worship everyday."

Marci Mann, the band's public relations director, said the turnout at the concert was good despite the extremely hot weather.

More than 100 people came to enjoy a time of fellowship and spirit-filled praise and worship music, she said.

A concession stand was available.

The band hopes to perform again at the band shell in the fall.
