ADVANCE -- American Roof-Bright of Southeast Missouri opened at Advance recently.

Curtis Sparks, owner of the new business, specializes in cleaning roofs and ridding them of unsightly stains.

Roof-Bright, headquartered at Atlanta, developed the cleaning system more than a quarter-century ago.

Sparks trained at a northern Arkansas Roof-Bright service at Blytheville.

He uses a special water-based polymer sealant with fungicide with a low-pressure wash.

"The low-pressure wash prevents damage to shingles, siding and guttering," said Sparks, a member of the National Roofing Contractors Association.

The process can also be used to clean brick, concrete, tile, decks and swimming pools.

The chemical, said Sparks, will not harm shrubs, grass or flowers.

The Roof-Brite process was developed in 1968 by Larry Stevens in Atlanta and operated as a small family business until 1989, when dealerships were offered throughout the United States. Today, more than 60 privately owned dealerships are located throughout the nation, including the Advance operation.

Roof-Brite also offers gutter shields, which prevents leaves and other litter from clogging gutters.

Additional information on roof cleaning and gutter shield is available by calling (573) 722-3300.
