Meyer's Alt Haus Wieder (Old House Again) has opened at 509 Morgan Oak St.

Alt Haus Wieder offers many one-of-a-kind items for building, renovating and decorating of vintage homes.

If we don't have what you're looking for, we'll help you find it," said Thomas M. Meyer.

Alt Haus Wieder is committed to assisting owners of vintage homes in rehabilitating their homes and restoring them to the comfort of the past.

"We'll help provide the resources, products and information to help you with a small or large project," said Meyer.

Meyer has long had an interest in old-home architecture.

Alt Haus Wieder was founded recently. Its principal owners are Meyer and his wife, Mary, who live in an 1892-vintage home in Cape Girardeau.

Manager of the store is Pat Mungle, who is also interested in vintage homes.

The new store, which opened last week, is in the city's Old German Haarig District, and will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

'We have a good collection of old architectural supplies already," said Mungle. "And we have access to a number of other items."

Included on the list of century-old items at the store are a formal carved mantel, corbel decorative braces, stained glass windows and an assortment of other historic 19th-century pieces salvaged from historic old homes, many of them in Cape Girardeau.

Also available are a pair of old telephone booth doors, a number of vintage doors, including a thick arch door complete with the arch frame.

Other items include old door knobs, lighting fixtures, "Ginger Bread" decorator pieces, old windows in wooden frames, old lumber and "finials," used in decorative iron work.
