Southeast Missouri State University's Board of Regents Friday hired a new vice president for business and finance, Dr. Ivy Locke.

She most recently worked as vice president for fiscal affairs at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Locke, who will make an annual salary of $94,000, has already begun her duties at Southeast.

She replaces William Duffy, who is leaving the university in March to begin a new career as a personal financial consultant.

Duffy will continue to serve as treasurer of the Board of Regents and the university foundation and work on special projects for his remaining months at Southeast.

Locke will take over those duties as well, beginning April 1. The treasurer's role includes financial duties for the foundation, which has assets of more than $39 million, school officials said.

Locke said she became interested in the position at Southeast after hearing Dobbins speak at a National Association of College and Business Officers training program in Chicago.

"I was particularly inspired by his leadership style," she said.

As vice president, Locke has oversight over a broad range of financial, business and support operations at Southeast, including budgeting, investment management, student financial services, computing, telecommunications and the Show Me Center.

In coordination with the university president, Locke also will oversee the university's intercollegiate athletics program.
