A 22-year-old woman who had advertised house cleaning services reported being raped by a potential client, Cape Girardeau police said.

The woman had placed a free advertisement offering to clean homes and apartments at a retail store, Cpl. Kevin Orr said. A man answered her ad, and called her at her residence to arrange for her to look at his apartment.

The man picked up the woman from her residence at about 11:45 p.m. on Friday, with the intention of showing her his apartment on the west side of Cape Girardeau, Orr said.

She told police that she looked at the apartment, had a wine cooler to drink and then went to use the bathroom.

When she emerged from the bathroom, the man was standing in the doorway wearing only a T-shirt, Orr said. He then assaulted her.
