The Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center will be celebrating ACTE Week (Association for Career and Technical Education) during the week of Feb. 13-19.
A key event of the week will feature an important national award presentation from the United States Department of Education to the Career Center's Adult Basic Education program. Dr. Dan Steska, Superintendent of Cape Public Schools, will be accepting the award on behalf of ABE and the Cape Girardeau School District.
This award, (The Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education's Award for Outstanding Adult Education Programs) will be included in the Feb. 15 ACTE Breakfast which is held yearly at the school to celebrate career and technical education.
Local Cape Girardeau business and civic leaders will be on hand to share in honoring the Career Center and its ABE program for this outstanding national achievement.
The event will be attended by Missouri Deputy Commissioner of Education, Dr. D. Kent King; Dr. Jon Warren, Director of Adult Basic Education; Mr. Don Eisinger, Coordinator of Adult Education and Employment Training; and Mr. Harold Tilley, Director of the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center. Also presenting the award to Dr. Dan Steska will be a representative of the U.S. Dept. of Education from Washington, D.C.
The Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center is justifiably proud of its ABE program for earning this award as it is the only school in the state of Missouri to be a recipient, and only one of ten schools in the nation to be so honored.
