Cape Girardeau County Assessor Jerry Reynolds plans to seek re-election.

Reynolds, a Cape Girardeau Democrat, has served as assessor for 24 years.

"The fairness of the property tax depends on how well it is administered," he said Friday in announcing his re-election plans.

"That has been my responsibility as assessor in the past. I want to continue to see that the assessments in Cape County remain equal and fair for all the property owners." he said.

"I have had a number of years of experience in the appraisal business," said Reynolds. "I have kept the office appraisals up to date while still staying within the budget requirements."

Reynolds said the operation of his office has changed dramatically in his years in office.

The office today is computerized. "We have gone from a staff of three to a staff of about 14."

Reynolds said keeping track of some 30,000 real estate parcels and a similar number of personal property lists is a big operation.

Real estate assessments are reviewed every two years, he said. "There is a lot of work to be done in this office."

Reynolds is a member and past president of the Missouri Assessors Association. He is a lifelong resident of Cape Girardeau County. He is married and has three grown children.
