A helping hand

When my husband became a double amputee, one of our many concerns was handicap accessibility to our home. We needed a wheelchair ramp. When our need became known, the following friends came to our aid: Lowe's Store in Cape Girardeau, Freedom of the Road Riders Local Chapter 16, Barry Knight, Mike Hellman, Martin King, Gary Greene, Amos Phillips, Whitey Pohlman, Nelson Monkin, Brad Estes and Jerry Long.

These friends gave of their time, abilities, money and material to build a wonderful new porch and wheelchair ramp that we never could have built on our own. I would like to express our deep gratitude not only for the ramp but for what their unselfish acts of kindness mean to my husband and our family. The Ward Family

Pizza party

As a reward for participating in the American Diabetes Association youth walk a few weeks ago, the children were promised a pizza party. Something went wrong that the pizza place originally contacted could not fill the order on the day of the party. The party coordinators contacted the Pizza Hut in Jackson who came through with 40 pizzas in record time. Lori, the Pizza Hut manager, called in extra help on the spot to ensure pizzas were ready and the kids were not let down. The entire staff at Pizza Hut did an extraordinary job with almost no notice. Bravo!
