Majhon Phillips, daughter of Allen and Aleda Phillips of Jackson, has qualified as a national finalist in the 2000 Pre-Teen America Scholarship and Recognition Program to be held July 1-6 at The Hyatt Regency Hotal and Conference Center in Knoxville, Ten.

In order to qualify for participation in Pre-Teen America, a contestant must have won her state title (Junior or Senior), placed as a Runner-up or won the Speech or Talent categories.

Pre-Teen America state programs are by-invitation-only scholarship and recognition events involving girls 7 to 12 years of age, based on their school academic records, awards and honors won and/or their participation in outside activities. Additionally, girls are invited who have been recognized publicly for their outstanding personal achievements, volunteer services, school involvement, leadership abilities or creative talents.

National finalists will be judged on (1.) academic achievement; (2.) volunteer service to church and community; (3.) school honors and activities; (4.) development of personal skills and abilities; (5.) general knowledgeability; (6.) comprehensive creativity; (7.) communicative ability and (8.) on stage acknowledgment of accomplishments.

Pre-Teen America will award over $25,000 in educational bonds, prizes, awards and travel opportunities.
