ST. LOUIS -- The Southeast Missourian won two first place awards, as well a number of other honors, at the Missouri Press Association's annual convention Saturday.

Photo editor Chris Stanfield claimed the prize for best news photo, while former managing editor Joni Adams Bliss and former graphic designer Teresa Connell won first place for best newspaper self promotion.

The news staff claimed second place honors in five categories: Editorial page, family living coverage, stand-alone publication, business coverage and religion coverage.

The paper and individual staffers also garnered six honorable mentions. Honorable mentions for the paper were in the categories of general excellence, best editorial; and best special section.

Individual honorable mentions went to Lou Peukert, news photo; Chris Stanfield, feature photo; and Teresa Connell, self promotion.
