A 47-year-old Kansas City, Kan., woman died Tuesday morning after the driver of the car she was riding in lost control while passing a tractor-trailer on Interstate 55.

Lauretta G. Portley was taken by air to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, where she was pronounced dead.

Portley was riding in a vehicle driven by 21-year-old Tifani M. Portley of Kansas City.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said the accident happened at 7:20 a.m. about 15 miles north of Jackson, Mo. The driver passed the tractor-trailer and ran off the left side of the roadway into the median and overturned.

The driver and two other passengers wre taken by ambulance to Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
