Mr. and Mrs. Leon Lefler of Cape Girardeau celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at the home of his mother, Virginia Lefler of Arnold, Mo.

Lefler and Shirley Traudt were married Aug. 12, 1961, at Longwood Baptist Church in St. Louis, by the Rev. Fisher.

He is the son of Virginia Lefler and the late Clyde Lefler. She is the daughter of the late John "Mick" and Donna Traudt of Imperial, Mo.

Lefler was a physical education teacher and assistant football and wrestling coach nine years in Kirkwood, Mo. He was a physical education teacher and head coach of wrestling and tennis nine years at Central High School. Lefler was an intake officer with St. Louis County Department of Corrections five years. He is currently employed by Painters District Council of St. Louis as a field representative for Painters Local 1292 in Cape Girardeau.

Mrs. Lefler was employed at Kmart in Cape Girardeau more than 23 years, retiring in 1998.

The couple has two sons, John Lefler of Cape Girardeau and David Lefler of Viburnum, Mo.
