PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- The St. Vincent High boys basketball team got a late jump on the basketball season after the Indians lost in the Class 1A state championship football game.

But the basketball Indians -- virtually all of their players were also on the football squad -- have definitely made up for lost time.

After losing their first two games of the season, the Indians have quickly piled up an 8-3 record, the most recent triumph being a 74-57 victory over visiting Hillsboro Friday night.

St. Vincent, which mproved to 2-0 in the Jefferson County Conference, got 23 points from Tyler Wengert and 22 points from Ryan Brown. Mark Gotto added 10 points.

"It was one of our better games of the season," said St. Vincent coach Bruce Valleroy. "We really played as a team."

Perryville 81, St. Pius 47

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Perryville remained undefeated in the Jefferson County Conference as the Pirates hit 10 3-pointers to rout St. Pius.

The Pirates (8-5, 2-0 Jeffco), who led 42-21 at halftime, got 14 points from both Andrew Meyer and Jason Dreyer. Kyle Noennig added 13 points and Chad Ozark finished with 11. Dreyer and Noennig both hit three 3-pointers.

Woodland 72, Zalma 37

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- The return of Ryan Bandermann paid immediate dividends as Woodland climbed above the .500 mark with an easy victory.

Bandermann had been out three weeks with an injury. In only about 13 minutes of action, he scored a game-high 21 points and he had five of the Cardinals' 10 3-point baskets.

Also scoring in double figures for Woodland (7-6) were Jared Houchins with 13 points and Michael Owens with 12.

Brad Isaac paced Zalma with 15 points.

Richland 67, Advance 60

ESSEX, Mo. -- Richland posted a huge victory by upsetting state-ranked Advance.

The Rebels (9-4) were led by Sherome Cole with 19 points and Sean Gibson with 18.

Advance (11-2), ranked ninth in Class 1A, got 26 points from Andrew Jenkins. Aaron Cantrell added 10.

Sikeston 63, Oran 54

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Oran put up a strong challenge against the much larger school, but the Eagles did not quite have enough firepower.

The Eagles (9-4), who trailed just 33-29 at halftime, got 19 points from Adam Friga and 11 from Nathan Seyer.

Sikeston (5-9) was led by Lontas McClinton with 13 points. Tony Jones added 12 and Justin Freeman contributed 11.

Bell City 75, Meadow Heights 33

BELL CITY, Mo. -- The Cubs, with four players scoring in double figures, disposed of the visiting Panthers in the first half.

Eric Henry led the assault with 21 points for Bell City (7-7), which built a 42-20 lead by halftime. Brian Phillips and Gabe Scherer each added 17 points and Jason Rampley netted 10.

Jeremy Mayfield and Brandon Tallent had 13 points apiece for Meadow Heights.

East Prairie 74, Delta 58

DELTA, Mo. -- Ryan Poyner scored a game-high 27 points to lead East Prairie to a 16-point victory.

Leading just 12-11, the Eagles used a decisive 19-7 scoring advantage in the second quarter for a 31-18 lead.

Only four players for Delta (6-7) found the scoring column with Lance Kinder leading the way with 22. Troy Nussbaum tallied 17 and Joey Keys added 12.

Charleston 78, Scott Co. Cent. 71

MORELY, Mo. -- Charleston (6-7) got 19 points from Lezcano Dean, 17 from Henry Hall and 11 from Jermaine Bradley in knocking off the Braves.

Scott Central (6-7), who trailed 34-28 at halftime, got outscored 26-18 in the third quarter.

Todd Blissett scored a game-high 24 points, while Chris Pullen and Chris Johnson added 18 and 11 points, respectively.

Eagle Ridge 62, So. Missouri 60

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Kris Dodson hit an 18-foot shot with seven seconds left to left Eagle Ridge Christian School of Cape Girardeau to a thrilling Ozark Christian Athletic Conference victory.

Southern Missouri Christian School had tied the contest 60-60 with 15 seconds remaining before Dodson's heroics.

Eagle Ridge (6-9, 3-0 conference) was led by Dodson's 17 points. Andrew Mellies and Mike Probst both scored 13 while Toby Shreve added 11.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Jackson 75, University City 63

JACKSON, Mo. -- Playing its belated first home game of the season, Jackson had to rally from a 10-point second quarter deficit in improving to 9-1 on the season.

Andrea Koeper scored 25 points for Jackson, including four 3-pointers. Jenna Leet added 15 points and Alisha Burns scored 11.

B.J. McBride paced University City with 16 points.

University City carried a 38-36 lead into halftime, but Jackson moved ahead 59-56 by the end of the third quarter. Whitney Werner came off the Jackson bench in the fourth quarter to play a pivotal role, scoring eight points and grabbing seven rebounds.

Eagle Ridge 40, So. Missouri 26

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Eagle Ridge Christian School of Cape Girardeau trailed 12-6 after one quarter but had little trouble the rest of the way.

Amber Karnes scored 16 points and Carrie Margrave added 11 to lead Eagle Ridge (7-3, 3-0 Ozark Christian Athletic Conference).

BOYS SWIMMING

Cape Central 94, Eureka 92

The Tigers improved to 4-4 in dual meets with a thrilling home victory.

"It was really an exciting meet," said Central coach Dayna Powell. "We've been working hard and the progress is showing."

Sam Maguire was a double individual winner for the Tigers, capturing the 100 and 200 freestyle events. He also swam on Central's victorious 400 freestyle relay team.

The only other individual winner for the Tigers was Stratton Tingle (500 freestyle).
