ST. LOUIS -- The Notre Dame High School boys swimming team ended its inaugural season Wednesday as host John Burroughs rolled to a 120-61 victory.

Still, despite a 2-9 first-year record for the Bulldogs, coach Lenny Kuper was encouraged.

"It was a building year, but we're very excited about the future," said Kuper. "Nobody qualified for state, but our times really got better as the season went on."

Notre Dame did not win any events Wednesday, but the Bulldogs had five second-place finishes, two each by Jordan Kuper and Mark Lester.

Kuper was second in the 200 IM (2:23.15) and 100 breaststroke (1:14.42) while Lester placed second in the 100 butterfly (1:07.87) and 500 freestyle (6:31.75). Also second was John Fisher in the 100 freestyle (1:04.57).

Meadow Heights 80 Kingston 35

PATTON, Mo. -- Josh Mayfield poured in 31 points as Meadow Heights picked up just its second win of the season.

Cody Thompson added 17 points and Joe Jordan had 12 for the 2-11 Panthers, who led 47-17 at halftime and then pulled away more. GIRLS BASKETBALL

Sikeston 37Oran 25

ORAN, Mo. -- Oran fell to 7-7 on the season as Sikeston posted a 12-point victory.

The Lady Eagles were led in scoring by Maria Eftink, who put in a game-high 14 points. But no other Oran player recorded more than three points.
