NEW MADRID, Mo. -- Cape Central found even quarters to its liking Monday night as it defeated New Madrid County Central 64-47 in girls basketball action.

"When we played good defense, they couldn't score on us," said Central coach Mark Ruark, "and when we didn't hustle on defense, they could."

The Lady Tigers (13-8) dominated New Madrid 30-8 in the second and fourth quarters when they played with intensity on defense.

In sharp contrast, New Madrid outscored Cape Central 36-34 -- first and third periods -- when the Lady Tigers defense rested.

Katie Daugherty, in her 98th consecutive game, led Cape Central with 22 points while Sarah Hyslop added 18.

Daugherty became the seventh player in Lady Tiger history to top the 1,000-point mark. She has 1,006.

Lisa Williams led NMCC with 23 points.

Jackson 52, Sikeston 32

JACKSON, Mo. -- Jenna Leet scored a career-high 24 points as Jackson rolled to a SEMO Conference victory.

Leet was 5 of 9 from 3-point range as she helped alleviate the absence of top scorer Andrea Koeper, who missed her second straight game due to illness.

Cook said Leet, who scored 18 points on Saturday, has stepped her game up in Koeper's absence. On Monday, she was the only Lady Indian in double figures.

" She took some good looks tonight," said Cook. "She played a good game."

Jackson improved to 14-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Jackson led 16-11 after one quarter, 27-18 at halftime, and broke the game open in the third quarter with a 16-4 scoring advantage.

The Lady Indians can claim at least a share of the conference title on Thursday when Cape Central visits.

Jackson won the JV game 50-18 to improve to 12-3.

Perryville 78, Crystal City 36

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- The Lady Pirates blew open a close contest in the second quarter to roll to victory over Crystal City.

After taking a 21-15 first-quarter lead, the Lady Pirates used fullcourt pressure to shut down Crystal City and take a 46-23 advantage into halftime.

Perryville continued to dominate throughout the second half outscoring Crystal City 32-13.

Jamie Amberger and Stacy Baer paced Perryville with 16 points each, while senior Jessica Littleton provided a spark off the bench with 13, including 3 of 3 from beyond the arc.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Marquand 98, Chaffee 70

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- The Chaffee Red Devils got caught up in a style of play that was not to their advantage.

Already shorthanded with only five varsity players, Chaffee (5-12) was unable to control the tempo and slow down the running Tigers from Marquand.

Trailing only 44-37 at the half, Chaffee managed to capture the lead with 4 minutes to go in the third quarter.

But the fast-paced action began to wear the Red Devils down as they were outscored by a 54-33 margin in the second half.

Chase Eskew led Chaffee with 23 points while Andrew Horrell chipped in with 16.

Doug Rehkop poured in a game-high 36 points for Marquand.

Heath and Ryan Stephens added 21 and 14 points, respectively.

The Chaffee JV improved to 11-6 with a 57-50 win over Marquand.
