TIGER NETTERS STAY UNBEATEN IN DUALS

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Cape Central's boys tennis team swept all three doubles matches as it managed to overcome the absence of two of its top six singles players to defeat Sikeston 5-4 and remain unbeaten in dual matches.

Central (11-0) played without its regular No. 4 player Andrew Eaton and No. 6 Paul Hagler.

"The other kids just didn't play like they've been playing," said Cape Central coach Bud Craven. "The key was the third win in doubles. It was tied 4-4 and those guys pulled it out 8-4."

Craven was speaking of James Russell and Sean Riches, who defeated Sikeston's Garrett Lambert and Aaron Senter.

Central won the JV match 11-1.

Sikeston had all four of its top golfers shoot less than 40 as Cape Central ended its dual-match season at 9-7.

Central was led by Todd Obergoenner with a 37, followed by Paul York and Tyson Seabaugh with 40s and Ty Grambling with a 42.

Brandon DeWitt and Brandon Couch both shot 36s to lead Sikeston.

Jackson wins triangular

JACKSON, Mo. -- Jackson won a tri-meet at Kimbeland Country Club with a season-low score of 150. Dexter carded a 159 while Bloomfield shot a 179.

Peyton Sims was the medalist with a one-over par 36, followed by Brett McDowell with a 37, Rhett Butler with a 38 and Kyle Perry with a 39.

Jackson improved to 15-3.

St. Vincent 160De Soto 181

DE SOTO, Mo. -- St. Vincent claimed the Jefferson County Conference title, capping off a perfect 7-0 conference season.

Craig Schumer shot a two-over-par 38 at the difficult Cottonwood Golf Course. He was followed by Wes Richardet (40), Jon Paulus (40) and Adam Prost (42).

St. Vincent concluded its season with a 10-1 record in dual matches.

BASEBALL

Oak Ridge 10Leopold 8

LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Leopold scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth, but Oak Ridge responded with three in the top of the seventh as the Bluejays improved to 5-3.

Beau Morrison picked up the win in relief. He went 1 1/3 innings and allowed no runs and one hit while striking out three.

Ashton James suffered the loss. He went the distance and gave up 10 runs on 12 hits and two walks while striking out four. James had a three-run double in the sixth.

Clayton Ruesler, Zack Ruesler, Aaron Eisenhauer and Kyle Berry each had two hits.

For Leopold (5-5), Daniel Schaab went 3-for-4, while Adam Landewee and Scott VanGennip each had two hits.

Perryville 10Woodland 0

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Perryville's Jon Miesner four-hit Woodland as the Pirates improved to 8-9.

Perryville scored six runs in the third inning of the game shortened to five by the mercy-run rule.

The Pirates seven-hit total was distributed among seven players, while Mark Cissell had three RBIs off a bases-loaded double.

Jason Gibson got the win, striking out five and walking one while giving up no earned runs.

Jacob Yarbrough got the save.

Clay Shermann went 2-for-2 with one RBI for Central.

SOFTBALL

Kelly 10Chaffee 0

BENTON, Mo. -- Natalie Lewer pitched a five-hit shutout against rival Chaffee, striking out four and walking none as Kelly improved to 10-1. She also went 3-for-4 at the plate.

Kelly led just 1-0 going into the bottom of the sixth, but scored nine runs to win the game by the run-rule.

Monica Senciboy went 2-for-3 for the Lady Hawks, while Ashley Rockett went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.

Ashley Pepple suffered the loss for Chaffee. She allowed 11 hits and five walks while striking out two.

Leopold 22Oak Ridge 11

LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Leopold's Kayla Horrell went 4-for-4 including a grand slam as the Lady Wildcats doubled up Oak Ridge.

Also for Leopold (8-3), Melissa Stroder and Melissa Thele had two hits each.

Jessica Stoverink was the winning pitcher.

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Caitlin Hoeh scored three goals and assisted on another as the Squaws improved to 12-6-1.

Hoeh broke a 1-1 second-half tie with her second goal. Beth Hennemann added a goal and an assist while Becky Kirn had two assists.
