PADUCAH, Ky. -- Cape Girardeau's Ford & Sons senior Legion team got out to a 4-0 lead after two innings but couldn't hold on as Mt. Vernon, Ill., rallied for a 7-4 victory Friday in the Pacucah Tournament.

Mt. Vernon scored four runs in the sixth to key its comeback.

Jay Pierce suffered the loss. In 5 2/3 innings, he gave up seven runs, but only three were earned. He allowed eight hits and four walks while striking out two.

Zac Fidler, Shane Kistner, Tyler Schlosser, Dusty Barrows and John Snider all had two hits as Ford & Sons fell to 6-7.

"We had the game won and let it slip away," Cape manager Tom Reinagel said. "But I still see good signs."

Herrin 9, Cape Riverdogs 5

HARRISBURG, Ill. -- Herrin, Ill., scored four runs in the first inning and led throughout as it defeated the Cape Girardeau Riverdogs Friday.

Chris Bradshaw had a single and three RBIs for the Riverdogs (2-5) while Josh Hulsey had a single and two-run home run and Mark Silverthorn had a single and a triple.

Herrin added a pair of runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth for a 7-1 lead. The Riverdogs scored four runs in the eighth but saw Herrin counter with two in the bottom of the inning.
