It took four innings for the Cape Central offense to warm up in its season opener, but once the Lady Tigers did, they proved too hot for the visiting Perryville Lady Pirates Thursday at Arena Park.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Cape Central busted loose for 12 runs for a 12-2 run-rule victory.

The Lady Tigers put together eight of their 10 hits in the inning. Jessie Snell, Megan McDonald and Ashley Foutch each had two hits. McDonald had a triple while Foutch doubled.

"We put the ball in play," said Cape Central coach Amy Blattel. "We started bunting the ball a little bit and they threw the ball away. I was proud of the girls the way they started putting the ball in play."

Holly Schnurbusch picked up the win, allowing six hits, striking out six and walking two.

Perryville won a wild JV game 27-22.

Cape Central will play host to Notre Dame on Wednesday.
