SCOTT CITY, KELLY GIRLS CLAIM WINS

BROSELEY, Mo. -- Kelly's and Scott City's girls won opening round games Saturday as the Twin Rivers Tournament began play.

Kelly, the third seed, improved to 8-0 with a 61-31 victory over No. 14 Naylor.

Scott City, seeded ninth, pulled off a mild upset with a 60-43 win over No. 7 Charleston.

Both teams advance to Monday's quarterfinal round. Kelly will face the New Madrid-East Carter winner at 4 p.m.; Scott City will take on top-seeded Doniphan at 5:30.

On Saturday, Kelly took a 30-20 lead into the third quarter and proceeded to outscore Naylor 20-0 in the period.

Bridgett Riley scored 19 points for Kelly, Marissa Essner had 13 and Dana Essner 12.

Brandi Moore led Naylor with 14 points.

Scott City also used a lopsided second-half quarter to seize control. Ahead only 38-35 at the end of the third period, the Lady Rams held a 22-8 scoring advantage in the final stanza.

Jennifer Bain led Scott City with 20 points on stellar 10-for-12 shooting. She also dished six assists. Loren Groves contributed 11 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Rams were Rachel Spinks and Ashley Lynn with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Alicia Rogers paced the Lady Bluejay effort with 14 points.

Cape Central sweeps ND

Cape Central's 'A' and 'B' teams remained unbeaten with wins on Saturday.

The 'A' team (8-0) won 64-44 behind 18 points from Michael Brown. Mitch Craft added 14.

The 'B' team (4-0) won 48-31 as Alex Espinoza scored 14 points. Tyson Seabaugh added 12 points.
