CHARLESTON -- After suffering two straight one-point losses, Jackson High boys basketball coach Steve Burk figured it was about time some good fortune struck the Indians.

Burk got his wish Tuesday night as Jackson squeezed out a one-point victory by slipping past host Charleston 62-61.

Tory Meyr hit one of two free throws with six seconds left to break a 61-all tie. Charleston's Howard Biles then missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

"It was a good win," said Burk, whose squad evened its record at 10-10. "We'd lost two in a row by one point, and to win one that way was nice."

Meyr paced the Indians with 19 points. Also in double figures were Brad Hilbert with 16, John Oehl with 14 and Seth McDowell with 11. Hilbert also had five assists while Levi Bollinger dished out six assists.

"I thought Hilbert really played well off the bench," Burk said. "And Oehl and McDowell did a good job inside."

Charleston, which fell to 11-8, got 19 points from Biles, 12 from both Jordy Mixon and Terrance Gillespie, and 11 from Lezcano Dean.

The Indians led 18-12 after one quarter and 33-25 at halftime, but the Blue Jays rallied to go ahead 43-41 entering the final period.
