Cape Central's girls basketball team posted another impressive win on Saturday, knocking off Rosati-Kain 53-30 at Tiger Field House.

The Lady Tigers, who led 11-8 after the first quarter, outscored Rosati-Kain 20-8 in the second quarter and led 31-11 at halftime.

Central coach Darrick Smith said good decisions in the open court was the key to the victory.

"We ran the floor real well today," Smith said. "We're not a run-and-gun team, but we'll run if you give it to us. This was one of our best passing days of the season."

The team posted 17 assists, seven of them by Dionna Webb and five by Katie Dougherty.

Mindy Hoffman led Central in scoring for the second straight game. After scoring 20 against state-ranked Notre Dame on Thursday, Hoffman poured in 18 Saturday. She was the only player in double figures, but nine Lady Tigers found the scoring column.

Central, the ninth-ranked team in Class 4A, improved to 15-3 on the season.

Piggott (Ark.) 57, Notre Dame 53

PIGGOTT, Ark. -- After a long bus ride to Saturday's game, the Lady Bulldogs couldn't be blamed if they wanted to walk around a bit after arriving.

But the amount of walking was a bit bewildering for Notre Dame coach Jerry Grim, who saw his 15-5 team lose back-to-back games for the first time this season.

"This team is pretty good, but they had a lot of help out there today," said Grim. "One of our parents counted 15 walks called against us in the first half. "We haven't' had 15 walks called on us all season long."

Grim added that many of the turnovers seemed to come at crucial times.

Despite the turnovers, Notre Dame was able to cut a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to two points with under two minutes remaining. The Lady Bulldogs, who trailed virtually the entire game, never could get over the hump.

"It was a good game," said Grim. "We had our chances to win it even as bad as things were. I had no gripes with the kids today. They played hard and never gave up."

Piggott took a 22-16 lead in the first quarter and a 35-27 advantage into halftime. Notre Dame trimmed the deficit to 45-43 by the start of the fourth quarter before falling further behind.

Deana McCormick and Lisa Millham each had 14 points for Notre Dame and Ashley Millham added 10 points.

Rebecca Whittley led Piggott with 12 points.

Parkway West 57, Jackson 48

JACKSON -- A second-ranked, 4A Parkway West team jumped out to an early lead over Jackson and never trailed, boosting its record to 19-2 with the win.

Parkway outscored the Lady Indians 18-10 in the first quarter and increased its lead to 31-19 going into the break, however Jackson rallied to outscore Parkway 29-26 through the second half, but was unable to overcome the first-half scoring disadvantage.

"I thought we played well," said Jackson coach Ron Cook, whose team fell to 9-9. "We just turned the ball over too many times. They have a pair of players over six feet tall, and that can alter your shots a little bit. This team plays in a district whose champion will probably get to the final four. If we can win our next two games against Sikeston and Cape Central than we can grab a share of our conference championship."

Emily Jaskowski led Parkway West with 17 points, while Alice Jaskowski added 10.

Whitney Warner tossed in 12 points for Jackson.

Perryville 65, St. Vincent 33

PERRYVILLE -- Amanda Schumer sank 3-pointers on three consecutive trips down the floor in a decisive second quarter as Perryville remained unbeaten in Jefferson County Conference play.

Perryville improved to 11-9 overall and 8-0 in conference play.

The Lady Pirates took a 16-11 lead into the second quarter and opened up a 37-19 lead by halftime.

Jamie Amberger paced Perryville with 18 points.

Danielle Sutterer led St. Vincent (13-5, 5-3) with 11 points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Grace Christian 59, Eagle Ridge 48

WEST FRANFORT, Ill. -- Mike Probst scored 14 and Toby Shreve added 10 as Eagle Ridge Christian School fell to 7-5 on the season.

Grace Christian took a 32-23 lead into halftime and extended it to 48-33 going into the fourth quarter.

Shawn Owens scored 31 points to lead Grace Christian.
