Travis Friga
School: Oran
Sport: Basketball
Coach: Larry Boshell
Week Report: Friga, a 6-foot-3 center/forward, put forth his best week of the season last week, scoring 14 against Advance then erupting for a career-high 35 against Naylor and 34 against Chaffee. In his last three games, Friga has made 18 of his 19 free throw attempts.
Season Report: Friga is one of the top five scorers in the area, averaging 20.5 points per game. The senior missed a large chunk of the season with an injury, including all of the University High Christmas Tournament. Friga also grabs 10 rebounds per game and makes 73 percent of his foul shots.
Coach's Comments: "He's a true player," Boshell said. "He can score inside and outside. He's not a threat from three yet, but he can score with his left hand or right hand from 16 feet in. The kids on the team respect him for his hard work. In those two big games, the kids were wanting to get him the ball. We've got that go-to guy down low. If we get him the ball, he can score. And it takes the pressure off Phillip (Seyer). Travis just had a heck of a week. If we can get the ball down low, and if we play solid defense, you never know (how districts might turn out). Some good things can happen."
