ND TUNES UP FOR DISTRICT WITH 8-1 WIN

ADVANCE -- Notre Dame roughed up Advance ace Garrett Broshuis for eight runs, six of which were earned, as the Bulldogs improved to 18-4 with an 8-1 win over the Hornets.

The Bulldogs, arguably the best offensive team in the area, managed six hits and five walks against Broshuis, who will play at the University of Missouri next fall.

Matt Bollinger was the only player for Notre Dame with more than one hit. He went 2-for-3. John O'Rourke went 1-for-2 with two walks, one run batted in, one run and two stolen bases.

Mark Ostendorf picked up the win. He pitched five innings and gave up just one hit and two walks while striking out four. Josh Eftink, who went 0-for-4 at the plate, allowed one unearned run in two hitless innings of relief to complete the combined one-hitter. Eftink struck out four.

Broshuis struck out nine in six innings of work.

"He threw the ball well for five innings," said Notre Dame coach Jeff Graviett of Broshuis. "He's been sick and lost some weight and he struggled with his stamina and we got to him. It was a good tuneup for us before the district tournament."

Notre Dame got out to a 1-0 lead in the first and it was a 1-0 game until the fifth when Notre Dame erupted for four runs. The Bulldogs added three in the sixth.

Oran 16, Bloomfield 2

ORAN -- The Eagles ended their regular season at 12-10 with an easy win over Bloomfield.

Freshman Ryne Wood threw 20 pitches and two innings to record the victory on the mound. He also went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in.

Travis Friga also had three hits for Oran and batted in two. Nathan Seyer homered in going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Travis Dirnberger went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Garrett Cook went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Philip Seyer also had two hits.

Oran received bad news, however. The Eagles found out that Adam Friga, the team's top pitcher and one of its best hitters, has a broken bone in his foot.
