ORAN -- Third-seeded St. Vincent pulled off a 2-0 upset of No. 2 Oran Tuesday to set up a Class 1A, District 2 Tournament championship game between the Indians and Advance at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

The top-seeded Hornets easily disposed of No. 4 Bell City 13-3 in seven innings.

For St. Vincent, Derek Kutz held Oran's offensive machine in check, holding the Eagles to just four hits. He struck out four and walked one.

"It was a nice win and a great high school game," said St. Vincent assistant coach Craig Hayden. "We've won five of the last six so hopefully we're coming along at the right time. Kutz just pitched a great game. He threw strikes early in the count and got real good defense. He did nice job working the fastball, the curve and the change."

St. Vincent scored one run on an error and another on a bases-loaded walk. The Indians banged out six hits.

Freshman Trey Graviett threw well, but suffered the tough-luck loss. He threw four innings, struck out two, walked two and allowed just one earned run.

St. Vincent's Gabe Hotop had two hits for the Indians, while Graviett had two for Oran. The Eagles had made two straight trips to the Class 1A final four.

In the Advance game, Adam Rainey got the win in five innings of work. He fanned seven, walked eight and gave up three runs on three hits.
