PERRYVILLE -- Perryville High School saw its third and most successful girls soccer season end with a 1-0 loss to St. Louis Notre Dame in the Class 1A-3A, District 1 soccer championship game Friday at Perryville High School.

Notre Dame broke a scoreless deadlock with 13 minutes remaining on a free kick just outside the penalty box. The redirected kick eluded goaltender Amanda Nuyt, who had been impenetrable to that point.

"She had several outstanding saves," said Perryville coach Heidi Knaak.

Perryville, which closed its season at 18-6-4, had several great scoring chances of its own.

"We had a few shots that hit the bar that bounced out," said Knaak. "It could of happened at any time, it just didn't."

The district championship appearance was the second in three seasons for the Lady Pirates, who are still looking for their first district title.

Perryville will undoubtedly be a top contender for the district crown next season with the graduation of just one player.
