HIGH SCHOOL: NO SHUTOUT, BUT ST. VINCENT STILL ROLLS

St. Vincent lost its three-game shutout streak, but it posted a lopsided win nonetheless, beating Valle 31-6 Friday night in area high school football action.

The Indians spread the ball around and really didn't rack up a lot of offensive yards partly because their defense and kicking game set them up so well.

No St. Vincent runner had over 37 yards, but the Indians picked off three Valle passes deep in Warrior territory and converted touchdowns. St. Vincent's defense also had five sacks.

Special teams continued to be the Indians' strong points as Derek Kutz booted a 31-yard field goal and kicked five of his six kickoffs into the end zone. The only one that didn't go in the end zone was a squib kick shortly before halftime. In addition to Kutz's special teams performance, kick returner Adam Bockman ran back a kick off for a 95-yard touchdown.

St. Vincent led 17-0 at halftime. The Indians, ranked second in Class 1A, will take on No. 9 Hayti for the District 1 title in Perryville Friday night.

Putting the 'D' on Dexter

Fredericktown held Dexter to just 89 yards of offense -- including no passing yards Friday night -- as the Blackcats (7-2) will play No. 5 New Madrid County Central for the Class 3A, District 1 title after beating the Bearcats 19-7.

Fredericktown rushed the ball for 219 yards. Clay Hendrix led the way with 80 yards on 15 carries, while Steve Francis rushed the ball 20 times for 60 yards and two touchdowns; and Rusty Leonard had 59 yards on 11 carries.

Fredericktown piled up 17 first downs to Dexter's five.

Knights suffocate Sikeston

The Farmington Knights held the Bulldogs to just 123 yards of total offense in their 18-0 win over Sikeston Friday night.

The score could've been worse, but Farmington fumbled twice inside Sikeston's 5.

Farmington, 8-1 and ranked sixth in Class 4A, rushed for 198 yards on 44 attempts against the Bulldogs.

The Knights will play host to Cape Central for the Class 4A, District 1 title Thursday night.

Mules jump out early

Poplar Bluff outscored Vianney 20-0 in the first quarter, but only ended up beating the Golden Griffins 35-14.

The Mules, who will play Jackson for the Class 5A, District 1 and SEMO North Conference titles Friday night, got 137 yards on 18 carries by running back Erick Schuermann.

Poplar Bluff quarterback Stan Revelle completed 13 of 28 passes for 162 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Travis Tinsley caught six passes for 68 yards and became Poplar Bluff's all-time career and single-season reception leader.

Total domination

New Madrid County Central racked up 398 of offense in beating Kennett 59-20.

The Eagles held a 40-9 lead after halftime, with Kennett's only touchdown coming on a 90-yard kickoff return by sophomore speedster Tyree Goolsby.

But New Madrid's Terrance Smith responded with an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

New Madrid's Dereke Tipler ended up with 163 yards on 12 carries and three touchdowns.
