BLOOMFIELD -- The Stoddard County Tournament closed with an exciting finale as top-seeded Dexter defeated sixth-seeded Puxico 64-62 in the championship game Friday night.

Shannon Wright scored a team-high 16 points for Dexter and RyanHarmon paced Puxico with 20.

In the third-place game, Advance defeated Woodland 51-41.

Garrett Broshuis tallied 24 points in the third-place game, including 17 for 18 from the free-throw line. Jonathan French added 13 points and Seth Cantrell posted 12.

Dave Massa, 15 points, was the lone Cardinal in double figures.

Perryville 62, Grandview 49

HILLSBORO -- Perryville got big games from Michael Downen and Ryan Verseman to win on the road.

Downen hit four 3-pointer and scored 19 points while Verseman scored 14 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as the Pirates improved to 6-8.

"We played really well," said Perryville coach Dean Lewis. "We haven't executed a game plan like we did tonight."

DeSoto 67, St. Vincent 50

DE SOTO -- St. Vincent got blindsided out of the starting gate as De Soto broke out to 21-3 lead in the first quarter and never looked back in Jefferson County Conference play.

The Dragons held a lopsided 41-11 lead at halftime.

"They pretty well put it to us," said St. Vincent coach Bruce Valleroy, who saw his team commit 13 turnovers in the first quarter.

Gary Wood scored a game-high 23 points for De Soto and Jake Jackson added 18.

Todd Meyer led St. Vincent (8-4, 2-2) with 11 points.

Greenville 98, Marquand 71

GREENVILLE -- Greenville outscored Marquand 31-24 in the second quarter to take a 47-39 lead into halftime and coasted to a win in a shootout.

Marquand made 25-of-29 shots from the foul line.

Dusty Stephens scored a game-high 35 points for the Tigers.

Greenville had five players score in double figures.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Cape Central 48, De Soto 39

DE SOTO -- Dionna Webb scored 14 points and Kim Aslinger had 13 to lead the Lady Tigers on the road.

Central (10-3) jumped on top 12-7 after one quarter and led 26-23 at halftime.

The Lady Tigers face a big challenge today when powerhouse Parkway West visits for a 2:30 p.m. game.

Scott Co. Central 55, Scott City 47

MORLEY -- The Bravettes undeniably won Scott County bragging rights this year with their second victory of the season over the Lady Rams of Scott City.

Scott Central (7-5, 2-0 Scott-Miss.) opened up an 18-7 lead in the opening period and led 27-22 at halftime. Scott City crept to within 41-37 by the start of the fourth quarter by Scott Central pulled away down the stretch.

"We got down early but the kids kept their composure and made a run at them," said Scott City coach Randy White.

Scott Central's Brandy Miller led all scorers with 21 points. Heather Bright added 11 points and Katie Griffin tallied 10.

Becca Gowin netted 19 for Scott City (7-5) and Alaina Smith scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.

Boys swimming

Country Day 104, Cape Central 76

Perennial swim power Country Day defeated the Tigers in their home water.

Cape Central (5-3) won six events, but were beaten in the 400 freestyle relay for the first time this season.

Eric Yount was victorious in the 200 IM (2:05.38) and 100 free style (50.25), while Jason Owen captured the 200 IM (2:05.38) and 500 freestyle (4:51.71). Ben Roeger claimed the 100 backstroke (58.82) and the foursome of Roeger, Zach Roberts, Owen and Yount won the medley relay (1:47.23).
