PERRYVILLE -- Perryville High's girls soccer team made a forceful statement Thursday, dealing Cape Central a 3-0 setback. It was the biggest triumph in Perryville's two-year history and its first win over Central after five defeats.

Central hadn't lost a regular-season game since 1996. Perryville improved to 9-2-1; the Lady Tigers slipped to 13-1-1.

"It was kind of surprising," said Perryville coach Heidi Knaak, "because Central had handed us several losses."

Amanda Schumer scored nine minutes in on an assist by Stacey Baer, and four minutes later Baer scored on a Brooke Winkler pass. Baer scored the second half's lone goal on a Schumer assist.

In the JV game, Central topped Perryville 2-1. Katie Hawkins scored both Central goals.

St. Vincent 4, De Soto 0

PERRYVILLE -- Jessica Lakenan scored two goals in St. Vincent's win against De Soto.

Kindle Ernst and Carrie Strattman had the other goals. The Squaws moved to 6-3.

Amie Leible got the shutout in goal.

Carbondale 2, Notre Dame 0

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Lady Terriers scored 25 minutes into the first half and added a second-half goal in blanking Notre Dame (6-6-1).

Jackson 3, Poplar Bluff 0

POPLAR BLUFF -- Julie Wunderlich, Carrie Myer and McKenzie Turley each scored goals as the Lady Indians improved to 10-4-1.

Jackson's junior varsity posted an 8-0 win.

Baseball

Chaffee 10, Anna-Jonesboro 9

CHAFFEE -- Chaffee coach Bruce Qualls offered an apt description of his team's game against Anna-Jonesboro, (Ill.): "It was something else to say the least."

Trailing 9-6 with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning, four straight Red Devils reached base -- three on walks and one on a third-strike passed ball -- and Jeremy Lynn's hit cleared the bases to win the game.

For Chaffee (10-2), Tommy Stidham had three hits, and Lynn, Matt Stroup and Dusty Leggett each had two hits and two RBIs. Stidham also earned the win, allowing three earned runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Scott City 4, East Prairie 3

SCOTT CITY -- Tied 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Scott City's Brandon Amick singled, stole second and went to third on a throwing error. After East Prairie handed intentional passes to John Wipfler and Lance Amick to fill the bases, Wade Powers singled home Brandon Amick and the Rams escaped with a win.

Scott City moved to 3-7 and 2-0 in the Scott-Mississippi Conference. Brandon Amick went all seven innings and got the win. Lance Amick paced the Rams with two hits.

Oak Ridge 9, Charleston 4

OAK RIDGE -- Oak Ridge unleashed 15 hits in its win over Charleston.

Darren Hahs was 3-for-4 with two triples, Beau Morrison was 3-for-3 with a double and Brian Haupt went 2-for-3. Morrison also earned the win, allowing five hits in five innings. Hahs picked up the save.

Advance 17, Bell City 4

ADVANCE -- Advance scored 11 runs in the first inning and six in the fourth in its clobbering of Bell City. The Hornets are now 6-3.

Daniel Turner was 2-for-3, Adam Rainey 4-for-4, D.A. Slinkard 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Chris Wallace 3-for-4 with three RBIs, Garrett Broshuis 2-for-3 and Andrew Jenkins 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Wallace hit a solo home run in the first, his third homer in the past three games.

Slinkard lasted just 2 1/3 innings on the mound but got the win.

Oran 12, Woodland 4

MARBLE HILL -- Oran pounded out 16 hits as it improved to 9-3 on the season.

Dustin Glastetter earned the win, going all seven innings. He allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks. He fanned six and hit a batter.

Chris Nichols went 4-for-4 with three runs batted in for Oran. Dustin Dannenmueller went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Billy Loper was 3-for-3 and Ryan Dennis was 2-for-4.

Chris Jordan was the losing pitcher for Woodland. He went 5 1-3 innings and gave up all 12 runs.

SOFTBALL

Oak Ridge 24, Charleston 21

OAK RIDGE -- Using a 15-run fourth inning, Oak Ridge notched its first win of the season in a high-scoring affair.

Tara Smithey and winning pitcher Micaela Morgan each had four hits for Oak Ridge (1-5) while Candice Schaeper and Alaina Hobeck had three apiece. Oak Ridge had 23 hits overall.

Charleston led 13-7 after scoring seven runs in the top of the fourth, but Oak Ridge held a nine-run lead by the end of the inning.

GOLF

Bluff wins triangular

Eric Summers shot an even-par 35 to lead Poplar Bluff to a three-stroke victory over Cape Central in a triangular meet at Cape Girardeau Country Club. Notre Dame finished third at 167.

Cape Central (8-4) was paced by Kent Phillips and Nick Harter, who both shot 38. Josh Miller and Luke Oliver both carded 41's to complete the Tiger score.

Notre Dame's team score was comprised of Nick Martin (37), Tim Buerck (40), Lucas Klein (45) and Ryan Hannon (45).

St. Vincent 166, Herculaneum 200

PERRYVILLE -- St. Vincent improved to 10-1 overall and 8-1 in Jefferson County Conference play with its easy victory over Herculaneum at Perryville Country Club.

Todd Meyer's 4-over 39 paced the Indians. Mark Gotto shot a 41, Ban Favier a 42 and Ryan Prost a 44.

Perryville 172, Festus 186

FESTUS -- Derek Cattoor shot a 5-over-par at Crystal Highlands to lead Perryville to a 14-stroke win.

Ryan Besand followed with a 43, while Andy Tanz and Mike Riney each posted a score of 44 for Perryville (7-3, 6-2 Jefferson County Conference).

Perryville's junior varsity upped its record to 7-1 with a 179-216 victory.

Cape Central 9, Carbondale, Ill. 0

CARBONDALE, Ill -- Cape Central improved to 7-2 for the season with a landslide victory over Carbondale.

Central's junior varsity won 19-1 and improved to 8-0.

Jackson 2nd at Ste. Gen

STE. GENEVIEVE -- With 116 points, Jackson's girls placed second in the 16-team meet. Farmington won with 142 points and Ste. Genevieve was third with 68.

Jackson won three relays, the 4x800, 4x200 and 4x100, and Jennifer Love captured two events, the 100 and 300 hurdles. Carol Koenig won the 800.
