BENTON -- In a day that belonged to the hitters, Kelly's bats produced the most damage for a 16-11 victory over visiting Jackson Monday.

Kelly, which improved to 11-2, accounted for 22 of the game's 35 hits with eight coming in a decisive eight-run sixth inning.

Justin Simpher led the Hawks both on the mound and with the bat. Simpher pitched six innings for the win and enjoyed a perfect 5-for-5 day at the plate with five singles that produced three RBIs. Jason Glastetter went 3-for-4 with two doubles; John Welter was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs; and Jamie Essner, 2-for-4, belted a home run.

Jackson trailed 8-7 entering the sixth inning but pushed across four runs in the inning for an 11-8 lead. Kelly then answered with its eight-run outburst off losing pitcher Lance Schlick, who was on in relief.

"It was a really wild game," said Kelly coach Mike Scott. "Jackson has an outstanding hitting team and we so far have been an outstanding hitting team."

Jackson (6-9) had 13 hits off Simpher, but were unable to mount any offense off Jim Hulshof, who pitched a perfect seventh for the Hawks.

Tory Meyr led Jackson with a 4-for-4 day. Todd Wessel, 2-for-4, hit a home run and Ben Kohm and Todd Metheny each added two hits. Josh Hopkins also homered for the Indians.

Oran 6, Scott City 4

SCOTT CITY -- Dustin Glastetter continued his impressive season to lead the Eagles.

A senior right-hander, Glastetter improved his personal record to 7-0. He allowed six hits and one walk while fanning eight.

Oran (11-3) had eight hits, two each by Glastetter, Adam Friga and Garrett Cook. Friga had two RBIs.

John Wipfler and Lance Amick each had two hits for Scott City, with Wipfler belting a two-run homer. He was also the losing hurler, allowing three earned runs.

Oak Ridge 23, Scott Co. Central 1

MORLEY -- Beau Morrison homered on the first pitch of the game and Oak Ridge went on to a five-inning romp over an error-prone Braves squad.

Oak Ridge (4-3) pounded out 13 hits, but was also helped by 11 Scott County walks and 11 errors.

Winning pitcher Darren Hahs allowed just one hit, struck out 12 and belted a three-run homer in the first inning. Hahs finished 3-for-5 with two doubles and five RBIs. Brent Schreiner went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Advance 10, Delta 4

ADVANCE -- Garrett Broshuis went 3-for-3 at the plate with a two-run homer as the Hornets rolled past Delta.

Advance (7-6) scored in every inning but the fourth and enjoyed three-run innings in the third and sixth.

The Hornets' Adam Rainey went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles; D.A. Slinkard was 2-for-4 with a double; and Chris Wallace belted a home run, his sixth in the Hornets' last seven games.

Daniel Turner went the distance on the mound to pick up the win. He allowed three hits, walked six and struck out five.

Ryan Livingston suffered the loss for Delta. He struck out four, walked six and gave up nine Hornet hits.

Delta 10, Advance 5

DELTA -- Mindy Parmer was the winning pitcher and had two RBIs to lead Delta, which also got two RBIs from Erin Cook.

BOYS GOLF

Sikeston Invitational

SIKESTON -- Host Sikeston ran away with the title while Jackson placed a solid second in the 14-team tournament.

Sikeston's 305 was 12 strokes better than Jackson. Kennett was third at 319 while Sikeston's `B' squad had 325 and Dexter 327.

St. Vincent was sixth at 330, followed by New Madrid 334, Poplar Bluff 335, Notre Dame 342, Cape Central 346, Caruthersville 352, Farmington 372, Malden 388 and Portageville 391.

Kennett's Brian Shumate was the individual winner with an even-par 71. Jackson's Gabe Estes was second with a 74.

Jackson's other scores were Peyton Sims 77, Chris Pike 82 and Nathan Brown 84. Sims finished in the top 10 in the tourney.

"We shot well, the lowest we have for 18 holes all year," said Jackson coach Ron Cook. "Gabe really did well and so did Peyton."

Notre Dame's scores were Tim Buerck 80, Nick Martin 82, Ryan Hannan 86 and Lucas Klein 94.

For Cape Central, it was Kent Phillips 83, Jeff Haycraft 85, Dan Groesbeck 87 and Nick Harter 91.

St. Vincent's scores were Craig Schumer 82, John Paulus 82, Joe Ponder 82, Dusty Cattoor 84 and Keith Pecaut 84.

Perryville 162, Herculaneum 172

PERRYVILLE -- Perryville improved to 8-4 overall and 7-2 in Jefferson County Conference action.

Ryan Besand led the Pirates with a 38. He was followed by Derek Cattoor (41), Andy Tanz (41) and Jeff Hotop (42).

BOYS TENNIS

Cape Central 7, Dexter 2

Cape Central won four singles matches and swept doubles play to defeat Dexter.

The Tigers improved to 8-2 on the season.

"The guys played real well today," said Central coach Bud Craven. "We're starting to pull things together here at the end of the season."

The JV continued an undefeated campaign, moving to 9-0 with a 7-0 victory.

Central's Ben Roeger, who won in straight sets Monday, also finished second among 14 players in a weekend tournament in Poplar Bluff. As a team, the Tigers placed fourth in the seven-team field.
