Tommy Wencewicz plugged the rightcenter field gap to score Wes Steele in the bottom of the eighth inning as Notre Dame High escaped visiting Oran 2-1 in an impromptu game Thursday.

Brian Obermann picked up the win in relief after John O'Rourke pitched six strong innings. Obermann threw two innings, allowed two hits, no walks and struck out two. O'Rourke allowed three hits and a walk while fanning six.

Oran's Dustin Glastetter suffered the loss in eight innings. He gave up five hits and no walks while striking out six.

Notre Dame (15-2) scored its first run in the fourth as O'Rourke singled and later scored on a right-field poke by Scott Reinagel.

Oran scored its only run on a wild pitch that bounced off the plate and over the backstop.

"That's one of the better 1A teams in the state," Notre Dame coach Chris Neff said. "I can't imagine any other 1A team in the state fielding and pitching that well.

Steele was the only Notre Dame player with more than one hit.

Notre Dame was originally scheduled to play at Perryville, but its field was too wet to play. When Perryville declined to play at Notre Dame, arrangements were made for Notre Dame to host Oran.

Chaffee 14, Scott Central 0

CHAFFEE -- Phillip Blevins allowed three hits and struck out 12 in five innings as Chaffee routed Scott County Central. The Red Devils improved to 12-3 overall and 5-1 in Scott County Conference play.

Chaffee totaled 11 hits. Garrett Senciboy had two hits and two RBIs and Travis Hanback had two doubles and three RBIs. The Red Devils scored 11 runs in the first inning and three in the second.

GIRLS SOCCER

Notre Dame 5, Marion (Ill.) 1

Emily Worley had two goals and an assist as Notre Dame rolled over Marion. The Lady Bulldogs advanced to 8-8-1.

Courtney Vickery added two goals and Katie Mehner had the other goal. Michelle Hency had two assists and Katlyn Kelley and Cyndi Cox each had one. The Lady Bulldogs led 3-1 at the half.

Poplar Bluff 3, St. Vincent 1

PERRYVILLE -- St. Vincent slipped to 6-6 with its loss to Poplar Bluff.

Carrie Strattman had the Squaws' goal and Stephanie Schremp had the assist. Poplar Bluff held a 2-0 edge at halftime.

GOLF

Sikeston 157, Cape Central 162

Sikeston wrapped up an undefeated regular season with a victory over Cape Central at Cape Girardeau Country Club.

The Bulldogs went 11-0 and won the Sikeston and Poplar Bluff tournaments. "I don't remember that happening in Southeast Missouri in a long time," said Central coach Dick Wadlington.

Blake Harmon and Brent Pearson each shot 3-over 38s to lead Sikeston. Paul Couch shot a 40 and Brandon Couch shot a 41.

For Central (9-6), Dan Groesbeck and Nick Harter each shot a 40. Kent Phillips and Josh Miller both shot a 41.

Poplar Bluff wins triangular

JACKSON -- With a 152, Poplar Bluff defeated Jackson (160) and Dexter (161) at Kimbeland Country Club.

Gabe Estes and Tommy Henderson led Jackson with 39s. Payton Sims shot a 40 and Nathan Brown shot a 42.

Jackson finished the regular season at 12-4.

SOFTBALL

Advance 17, Bloomfield 2

BLOOMFIELD -- Advance wrapped up its third straight Stoddard County Conference title with a five-inning blowout of Bloomfield.

Ashley Hitt picked up the win, allowing two unearned runs on one hit and three walks. She fanned six and walked a batter.

Bloomfield's Charlene Richmand was the loser. She went the distance and gave up 14 hits and six walks. She struck out two.

Emily Johnson provided two hits including a homer and three runs batted in for Advance (8-1, 5-0). Amber Bond had three hits, while Hitt and Jessica Eftink each had two.

Chaffee 15, Scott Central 0

CHAFFEE -- Sophomore Ashley Pepple got the win over Scott County Central in her first varsity start. She allowed one hit in three innings; the game was halted at that point due to the mercy rule.

Chaffee had only four hits but drew 16 walks. Jodi Pfefferkorn had a hit and two RBIs.

On Wednesday, Scott City beat Chaffee 11-6.

TENNIS

Cape Central 5, Sikeston 4

SIKESTON -- Cape Central snapped a five-match losing streak to Sikeston with a narrow victory Thursday.

While the teams split the six doubles matches, Cape Central (10-2) won two of three doubles matches.

Central's JV improved to 11-0 on the season with an 11-1 victory.
