After winning six straight games Sunday, Shamrock Construction captured second place in the Missouri ASA Class A State Tournament for players age 16 and under.

By finishing as the runner-up in the tourney held at the Shawnee Sports Complex in Cape Girardeau, Shamrock qualifies for the regional tournament to be held July 23 in Kansas City.

Shamrock won its first game 15-0 over the Perryville Lightning but then lost to the Jefferson City heat 10-5.

However, Shamrock bounced back to win its next six games, beating Troy 4-0, Carrolton 7-5, Benton 7-5, Columbia 7-5 in nine innings, Webb City 3-1 and the Jefferson City Heat 4-3 in 10 innings.

The Jefferson City Heat then captured the title by beating Shamrock 5-1.

Shamrock team members are high school players from Cape Central, Notre Dame and Egyptian, Ill.

Squad members are Amber Voerg, Ashlie Voerg, Katlyn Kelley, Cassie Gross, Casi Childers, Chantel Childers, Trisha Klipfel, Laura Huber, Sarah Muench, Abbey Fuller, Erin Jackson, Katie Jackson, Ashley Foutch and Jessica McDonald. Coaches are Tim Kelley and Terry Childers.
