Week Report: Broshuis, a junior pitcher who also plays shortstop and outfield, turned in one of the area's most dominating mound performances in recent memory when he struck out 19 batters in a seven-inning one-hitter against Bloomfield. At the plate, he went 8-for-11 with a home run and six runs scored.

Season Report: Broshuis is 5-2 with a 2.37 earned run average. He has struck out 74 batters in 38 1/3 innings and has walked 21. One of the area's best basketball players, Broshuis has had his fastball clocked in the mid-80s and blends in three other pitches -- a curve, slider and changeup. Since last Thursday's game against Bloomfield, Broshuis has fanned 27 batters in 9 2/3 innings. He has posted double-digit strikeouts in three games this season, fanning 13 against Bernie and 11 against Puxico. Broshuis, who usually hits fifth, is batting .440 with one homer and six RBIs.

Coach's Comments: "He's an extremely intelligent and gifted athlete," Powers said. "He works really hard and can play about every position. He's seeing it and hitting the ball real well right now and making much better contact. He's really improved since last year. He's developed a changeup and slider and throwing with more confidence and hitting his spots. He uses fastball to set up his other pitches. It's hard to slow your bat down on his change. He does a good job at not giving his pitches away."
