BENTON -- New Madrid County Central pitched around Kelly's power hitters Thursday and they paid for it.

The Hawks' seven-through-nine hitters combined for seven hits and six RBIs as Kelley (15-3) downed NMCC 11-6.

No. 9 hitter Vince Elkins was particularly productive, going 4-for-4 with a double and four runs batted in.

"They pitched around (Bradley) Kolwyck and (Jason) Glastetter, but the bottom of the order came through," Kelly coach Mike Scott said.

Jon Huering went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Jim Hulshof -- the winning pitcher -- went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Hulshof (4-0) went seven innings and allowed six runs (four earned) on 10 hits and no walks. He fanned seven.

SOFTBALL

Chaffee 13, Leopold 1

CHAFFEE -- Amy Duncan fired a two-hitter and knocked in four runs as Chaffee won in five innings.

Duncan (7-2) struck out six and walked two. Chaffee improved to 10-3.

Amy Burnett had three of Chaffee's 14 hits, including a double and a triple. Duncan, Emily Siebert, Jill Little and Jodi Pfefferkorn all had two hits.

Chaffee led 3-0 after one inning and moved ahead 6-0 in the second on a three-run double by Duncan. The Lady Red Devils, who scored in every inning, upped the lead to 11-0 in the third.

GIRLS SOCCER

Cape Central 10, De Soto 0

DE SOTO -- Jennifer Daume netted three goals as Cape Central enacted the 10-goal mercy rule.

Cape Central (19-1-1), which led 7-0 at halftime, also got single tallies from Amanda Hiler, Kim Aslinger, Amber Voerge, Rachel Hessenkemper, Corie Nunnally, Lorie Bittle and Rebecca Hellrich.

Hiler, Aslinger, Voerge and Erica McDonald all had two assists while Hessenkemper and Nunnally each had one.

Central's JV also won by a 10-0 score to improve to 10-0-1. Kaytie Hawkins netted four goals; Trisha Klipfel three; Camerron Bennett two; and Ashley McElreath one. Jessica McDonald recorded the shutout.

Notre Dame 0, Jackson 0

Notre Dame and Jackson combined for 25 shots, but neither team was able to deposit one in the net.

Jackson goaltender Dana Littlepage faced 16 shots and Notre Dame's Shannel Bueltemann saw nine shots.

Notre Dame's record remained even at 10-10-2.

"I thought we controlled a little more of the action, especially in the second half," said Notre Dame coach Jeff Worley. "We had some really good chances but couldn't get one put away."

TRACK

Kelly teams prevail

CHAFFEE -- Kelly's boys and girls posted narrow victories Thursday.

The Hawks edged Portageville by a single point, winning 112 to 111. Scott City placed third at 99, followed by Chaffee (88), East Prairie (76) and Oran (35).

The Lady Hawks posted 87 points to prevail over Portageville (81), East Prairie (72), Scott City (50) and Chaffee (39).

TENNIS

Farmington 6, Cape Central 3

Cape Central dropped to 11-3 on the season Thursday with a loss to Farmington.

Despite the loss, Central coach Bud Craven said it was a good opportunity to hone for the upcoming district tournament.

"It was good to play two out of three to get prepared for districts," said Craven. "We have to be ready physically for that. They were all tired and it's usually hard to wear them down."
