Dionna Webb
School: Cape Central
Sport: Track
Coach: Lawrence Brookins
Week Report: Webb was a three-event champion in last week's Class 4A, District 1 meet at Jackson. The junior took first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.5 seconds, second in the 200 (:25.7) and her long jump of 17 feet, 4 3/4 inches was about 1 1/2 feet longer than the next-closest competitor. She also was a member of Central's 4x100 team which qualified for sectional by taking third place with a time of :52.0.
Season Report: Webb has been one of Southeast Missouri's elite athletes this track season. She's unbeaten in the long jump and has suffered just one loss in both the 100 and 200. Earlier this year, Webb -- who took second in state in the long jump last year -- bettered her own school record with a leap of 18-6 at the Kirkwood Invitational.
Coach's Comments: "She's been dominating (in the long jump). Nobody's been close. She's a muscular kid, but in a lean sort of way. She's not real imposing at first glance, but she's lean, slim and wiry. And she's very competitive. She wants to do well for herself and her school. She doesn't want to disappoint herself, her team or her coaches. And she's very unselfish. She does whatever we ask her to do. She's the best I've been around as far as a multiple performer. She does so much, so well and so consistently. She's so consistent we often take her for granted. You can count on `X' amount of points from Dionna Webb every meet."
