JACKSON -- Cape Central, the No. 2 seed, advanced to today's championship game of the Class 4A, District 1 softball tournament with a 3-1 victory over third-seeded Poplar Bluff Friday at Jackson Park.

Winning pitcher Casi Gross led the way with a three-hitter. She struck out six and walked one.

Cape Central (16-12) will play top-seeded Jackson in the championship game at 11 a.m.. Jackson defeated Sikeston in Friday's other semifinal.

Against Poplar Bluff, the Lady Tigers' power hitter, Amber Voerg, knocked another solo home run. She has hit at least one home run in each of Cape Central's last three games. Dionna Webb went 3-for-4 and Katie Dougherty went 1-for-4, each swatting a triple.

April Moss took the loss for the Lady Mules.

Class 3A, District 1

PERRYVILLE --Second-seeded Perryville repeated as district champions with a 7-0 victory over top-seeded Ste. Genevieve in Friday's championship game.

Perryville (14-14) had advanced to the title game with a 1-0 victory over third-seeded Park Hills.

Megan Narrow threw a pair of shutouts for the Lady Pirates.

She held Park Hills to three hits in the semifinals while striking out two and walking none.

Perryville's Stacey Baer had two of Perryville's three hits, including an RBI double in the third inning for the game's lone run.

In the championship game, Narrow again pitched seven innings, giving up five hits, striking four and walking three.

Samantha Rehkop had two of the Lady Pirates' eight hits. Baer added an RBI triple and teammates Amanda Schumer and Rachel Verseman each had RBI doubles.

Perryville will play the District 2 winner out of Festus in Thursday's 4 p.m. sectional game.

VOLLEYBALL

Woodland 15-15,

Richland 1-9

MARBLE HILL --Sarah Booth set the tone for the Lady Cardinals with eight kills and four digs as Woodland improved to 15-2.

Woodland's Lilo Whitener added seven kills, Julia Cutsinger posted 13 service points along with six assists and Danielle Farrell had ten assists.

The Lady Indians'JV squad lost 10-15, 1-15.

Solid Rock Christian 15-15

Eagle Ridge Christian 7-8

Cape Christian fell to 0-5 as Solid Rock Christian swept its visitor.

Kara Ervin and Ashley Hughes each finished with four service points for Eagle Ridge.

Eagle Ridge saw its JV improve to 4-0 with a 15-12, 15-10 victory.

Bloomfield 15-15

Advance 3-11

BLOOMFIELD -- Advance fell to 3-11-2 on the season as it suffered a sweep at the hands of Bloomfield.

Heidi Delay paced Advance with six kills and three aces. Amber Bond added four kills and Kristin DeJournett finished with six digs.
