Notre Dame's freshman volleyball team took first place and its junior varsity took second in the Notre Dame freshmen and junior varsity tournament Wednesday.

Notre Dame's freshmen won the championship game over Scott City 16-14 and 15-5 after beating Sikeston 15-10 and 15-13.

"Danielle Bremer played terrific all around," said Notre Dame junior varsity and freshman coach Tara Stroup.

In junior varsity action, Jackson took first place with a 9-15, 15-13, 15-7 win over Notre Dame (19-7).

Notre Dame beat Oran in the semifinal game 15-1 and 15-5.

New Madrid 42, Cape Central 0

NEW MADRID -- Cape Central's eighth-grade team dropped to 2-2 Wednesday night with a lopsided loss to New Madrid.

In the "B" game, New Madrid won 16-7. Colin Schermann scored Central's touchdown.

Central plays at Sikeston next Thursday.
