ST. LOUIS -- Perryville dropped to 2-5 on the season Saturday after suffering a 20-7 loss to John Burroughs.

"We played really poorly," Perryville coach Jerry Tucker said.

Trailing 14-0 at halftime, the Pirates took the ball down the field and scored on its first possession of the third quarter on an 8-yard pass from Tyler Abernathy to Shawn Statler.

Josh Hudson led Perryville with 60 yards on 17 carries.

Perryville had a touchdown called back in the second quarter.

And to add injury to insult, the Pirates had to play most of the game without one of their best linebackers.

"They ran the ball very effectively against us," Tucker said. "But Ryan Thieret got hurt in the second quarter and that really affected us."

John Burroughs, a Class 2A school that plays a rugged schedule, improved to 3-4.
